on Sunday and beat Guillermo Garcia-Lopez easily in straight sets. Federer wasn't broken during the whole match and closed it out in 68 minutes. In the third round, the Swiss plays against Nicolas Mahut, who beat Nicolas Almagro in straight sets. Almagro still shows he has trouble adjusting his game from clay to hardcourts (he won Brasil Open and Acapulco this year).Fourth seed Nikolay Davydenko didn't have much trouble beating American John Isner in straight sets in the cold windy conditions of night play. Davydenko faces another good server from the USA, Mardy Fish, in the third round. Fish beat Igor Andreev, also in straight sets, showing rare patience and steadiness in terribly cold conditions against a solid player.
The surprise of the round was Tommy Haas (pictured left, click for larger) beating sixth seed Andy Roddick in straight sets, after having some disappointing losses in the previous tournaments. In his press conference, Roddick admitted he played a bad match and that he didn't think he adjusted well enough to the different conditions in Indian Wells as compared to Dubia. Haas improved his head-to-head record against Roddick to 7-3. The German now faces Fernando Verdasco, who needed three sets to beat Victor Hanescu. Even though Verdasco wasted 8 break points in the first set and lost it, he finally got the break once in the second with 8 break point chances and ended up going through to the third round.Seventh seed David Nalbandian beat Ernest Gulbis in the third set tie break in a harder than expected match that had the stands full and the crowds buzzing. Gulbis hit 19 aces and the match ended with 116 points won for Nalbandian and 114 for Gulbis.
Gulbis served for match at 5-3 in the third set but was broken to love. Nalbandian's next opponent is Radek Stepanek, who beat Max Mirnyi 64 62, and improved his head-to-head record to 3-0. Mirnyi still hasn't shown his old good form that he had some time ago.Andy Murray (pictured left, click for larger) had some trouble to beat Jurgen Melzer in three sets. Melzer started out on fire and went up two breaks, but Murray found a way to comeback and win it to go through to the third round. In the next round, Murray faces Ivo Karlovic, who hit 15 aces to beat Rik De Voest. Murray and Karlovic faced each other in last year's San Jose final in a great match that the Scot won 67 64 76.

Mario Ancic (pictured right, click for larger) beat Fernando Gonzalez in three sets. Gonzalez still shows how badly he's been playing this year. In the next round, Ancic faces Juan Carlos Ferrero. Ancic has an awful 0-3 record against Ferrero and has never won a set. It might be his chance to try to do it this time to try to get better in the rankings. Ferrero beat Thomas Johansson in straight sets.
#13 seed Mikhail Youzhny beat Gilles Simon in straight sets. Simon had a lot of chances to win though, having 2 break points at 4-3 in the first set and leading the second 4-1. Youzhny had 73% of his first serves in and won 78% of the points on his first serve, which helped him to advance to the third round. The Russian came to Indian Wells after losing three matches in a row. Youzhny now faces Lleyton Hewitt (pictured left, click for larger), who beat Sam Querrey in the night session in straight sets. Querrey was the Las Vegas champion and has been playing pretty well lately.#15 seed Tommy Robredo (pictured right below, click for larger) beat Nicolas Massu in a battle that lasted more than three hours and
was decided in the third set tie break. Massu had great chances to win the match, considering he led 4-1 in the third set and had some chances to make it 5-1. Massu also had a 4-3 lead, with serve, in the tie break. Both players haven't been playing their best tennis lately, but Robredo pulled out the win. Robredo now faces Ivan Ljubicic to try to improve his 1-4 head-to-head record. Ljubicic beat Marin Cilic in an all Croats match between an experienced player and a young one in two close sets 76 75. Cilic had an early break and 3 game points but couldn't confirm the break. In the tie break, Ljubicic got to a 6-3 lead, Cilic made it even but Ljubicic got to win it and his experience clearly is what won out in the end. Here are all the results from Sunday's play in Indian Wells:
